Coronado High School art students, under the direction of resident mosaic artist Kirstin Green, have been working since January on yet another stunning permanent installation on campus. Titled "Jazz Hands", this piece is homage to art, music, design, geometry, and all around fabulous-ness! Done in an art deco style with beach glass colors using local company Oceanside Glasstile material, this installation will enhance the steps leading up to the music, art and broadcasting studios at Coronado High.

“This project-based learning mosaic teaches important life skills like cooperation, patience, teamwork, and perseverance in addition to the invaluable skills of tile setting and mosaic work” noted Kirstin Green. Made possible by funding of the Coronado Schools Foundation, Dawn Bongiovanni, ASB & Enrichment funds, and Jill Hardman, owner of Art & Frames by Wood Gallery, Jazz Hands was unveiled and presented to the community in a special unveiling ceremony on Thursday, May 26th, 5 pm. The school and greater community was invited to attend.

“This project was a collaboration of many, including CSF, Advanced and Studio Art Classes, After School Enrichment Programs, the Ceramics and Woodshop departments, Coronado Unified Maintenance & Operations crew, and community members,” added Kirstin. “I hope the community will join us to see the lifting of the tarp for the unveiling, enjoy light refreshments, and congratulate our amazing student team on a job well done.”

Jazz Hands is located on the stairway by the east end of the campus near the Woodshop and Ceramics studios and COSA office.
