The mural was commissioned by the Leavenworth Neighborhood Association with funding from the Mayor’s Neighborhood Improvement Grant and Mutual of Omaha Foundation. A selection committee, made up of representatives from the association, the Omaha Public Art Commission and Omaha Parks & Recreation, chose the Bruning design after reviewing 21 submissions. The association presented the mural to the City of Omaha on June 1, 2009.
